In a surprising twist of fate, Indian spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin, the mastermind behind several eye-catching run-outs at the non-striker’s end, found himself on the receiving end of a warning for the same offense during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 match.

Ravichandran Ashwin gets a warning

Known for his sharp cricketing acumen and relentless pursuit of wickets, Ashwin has been at the forefront of the debate surrounding the legitimacy of running out non-strikers who back up too far. His successful attempts at dismissing batters in this manner have often sparked heated discussions about the spirit of the game.

However, the tables turned dramatically when Ashwin was playing for the Dindigul Dragons in Match 28 of TNPL against Nellai Royal Kings. During the 15th over, left-arm spinner Mohan Prasath spotted Ashwin edging out of his crease and promptly stopped his delivery stride. Noticing the bowler halt in his approach, Ashwin quickly ceased his movement. The replay showed that the all-rounder had his bat on the crease and would have been declared out if the bowler had removed the bails.

The incident has understandably generated a lot of buzz on social media, with fans and experts alike weighing in on the irony of the situation. While some found the incident amusing, others used it as an opportunity to reiterate their stance on the Mankad dismissal.
