India set to host Asia Cup 2025; tournament to take place in a T20 format

India have been confirmed as the host for the 2025 Asia Cup, with the tournament set to be contested in the dynamic T20 format. This announcement comes after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) released an Invitation for Expressions of Interest (IEOI) document.

Event details

The 2025 Asia Cup promises to be an exciting event, featuring six teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a qualifier. This will be a significant tournament following the 2023 edition, which was hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka and played in the 50-over format.

Return to T20 format: Fans can look forward to fast-paced matches with plenty of big hits and dramatic wickets.
India’s home ground advantage: While there would be some advantage but the Indian team will face immense pressure to perform on their home turf.
India versus Pakistan rivalry: One of the most anticipated matchups – India versus Pakistan – in cricket will be even more intense.
Emerging talent: The tournament will provide a stage for young players to showcase their skills.

Additionally, the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup will be held in the T20 format, featuring 15 matches. The most recent Women’s Asia Cup, held in Dambulla in 2024, saw Sri Lanka clinch their first title, defeating India by eight wickets in the final.
