ICC Women’s T20I Rankings: Smriti Mandhana, Renuka Thakur advance; Beth Mooney remains on top

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest Women’s T20I rankings, showcasing significant shifts in player standings. This update reflects the performances in recent tournaments, including the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, which saw top players delivering match-winning performances and earning well-deserved recognition.

Indian players advance: A rising dominance

Indian cricketers have made notable advancements in the latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana climbed to the fourth position among batters, accumulating 743 rating points. Mandhana’s crucial knock of 60 runs in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka played a pivotal role in her ascension. Among bowlers, Renuka Singh Thakur‘s impressive haul of seven wickets in the tournament elevated her to the fifth position with 722 rating points, a significant leap of four places.

The top batters: Consistency at the pinnacle

Australia’s Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath continue to dominate the top two spots among batters, with Mooney holding 769 points and McGrath at 762. West Indies’ Hayley Matthews is positioned third with 746 points, showcasing her consistent performance. South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, another formidable player, maintains her position in the top rankings, reflecting the competitive spirit of women’s cricket.

Biggest gainer: Chamari Athapaththu’s stellar rise

The standout performer in the latest rankings is Sri Lanka’s skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who made a significant leap of three places to secure the sixth position with 705 points. Athapaththu’s match-winning 61 in the Asia Cup final against India was a testament to her exceptional skills and leadership, earning her a well-deserved boost in the rankings.

Other movements: Emerging talents and strategic plays

Several other players have made notable progress in the latest rankings. Pakistan’s Muneeba Ali advanced six places to reach the 35th position among T20I batters, while Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana climbed three spots to 14th. Sri Lanka’s Harshitha Samarawickrama also made a significant move, reaching the 20th position after top-scoring with an unbeaten 69 in the final.

Among bowlers, England’s Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn maintain their dominance at the first and second positions, respectively. Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma holds steady at third, while Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal, after moving up one place, is now ranked fourth. India’s Radha Yadav, with her commendable performance in the Asia Cup, moved up seven places to secure the 13th spot.
