MS Dhoni has long been revered as ‘Captain Cool,’ a title he earned for his remarkable ability to stay calm under pressure. Whether navigating tough situations on the field or leading his team to victory in critical matches, Dhoni’s poise and strategic brilliance have solidified his place as one of cricket’s greatest leaders.
His calm demeanor, combined with his exceptional tactical acumen, led him to become the only captain in history to win all three major ICC white-ball trophies: the T20 World Cup in 2007, the Cricket World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Furthermore, his leadership with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) saw them clinch five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, equalling the highest number of titles won by any franchise.
Subramaniam Badrinath opens up on a rare instance of MS Dhoni losing his cool
While Dhoni’s calmness is legendary, even he has his moments of frustration. Subramaniam Badrinath, Dhoni’s former India and CSK teammate, recently shared a rare and unheard tale of the iconic captain briefly losing his cool. Badrinath recalled an incident during an IPL match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai, where CSK were chasing a modest target of 110 but lost wickets in quick succession, ultimately losing the match.
“I got out to a lap shot against Anil Kumble and was dismissed LBW. When I returned to the dressing room, Dhoni came in, visibly upset. He kicked a small water bottle out of the park. None of us could make eye contact with him,” Badrinath revealed in an interview with InsideSport. Despite this rare outburst, Dhoni never allowed his emotions to show on the field, maintaining his characteristic composure in front of the opposition.

Uncertainty surrounds Dhoni’s future in IPL as auction looms
As the IPL 2025 mega auction draws nearer, speculation around Dhoni’s future in the tournament continues to grow. Despite being part of the team under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership in 2024, Dhoni has remained silent on whether he will return to the field for another season. Fans and analysts alike are left wondering if the cricketing world has seen the last of ‘Captain Cool’ as a player.
Fans hopeful for another season
Dhoni’s legion of fans remains hopeful that the legendary captain will don the yellow jersey once again. His impact on CSK and the IPL is undeniable, and many are eagerly waiting for confirmation of his return.
