The much-anticipated second Test between India and Bangladesh has kicked off at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Despite interruptions due to rain, a wet outfield, and bad light, India has managed to keep a firm grip on proceedings as their bowlers continue to put the Bangladesh batters under pressure.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s masterstroke sends Najmul Hossain Shanto packing

One of the key highlights of the day came during the 28th over when India’s star spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who was the Player of the Match in the first Test in Chennai, dismissed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto with a well-disguised delivery.

Ashwin, bowling from around the wicket, trapped Shanto leg before wicket (LBW) with an in-drifter that confused the batter. Shanto reviewed the decision, but UltraEdge showed no bat involved, and ball tracking confirmed it was crashing into the middle stump. Even if Shanto had managed an inside edge, the ball would have been caught by Shubman Gill at second slip, leaving no chance for the Bangladeshi skipper to escape. Shanto, who had been playing well until that point, was left bemused by Ashwin’s clever deception.

Rain forces early stumps as Bangladesh struggle at 107/3

With rain pouring down and dark clouds enveloping the Kanpur skies, play was officially called off for the day. The umpires decided to announce stumps after continued bad light and heavy showers made it impossible to resume the match.

Bangladesh ended Day 1 at 107/3 after 35 overs, with Mominul Haque unbeaten on 40, showing resilience against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Mushfiqur Rahim remained at the crease on 5*, as the visitors faced a challenging day. India’s bowlers, led by Akash Deep and Ashwin, kept the pressure on, and the weather forecast for Day 2 remains uncertain, adding to the intrigue of the contest.
