England‘s young batting sensation, Harry Brook, etched his name in cricketing history during the ongoing first Test against Pakistan in Multan. Not only did he notch up his maiden triple century, but he also played a pivotal role in establishing a record-breaking partnership with Joe Root, putting England in a commanding position.

Brook joins elite company with his scintillating knock

Brook’s remarkable knock of 317 runs is only the sixth instance of an English batter scoring a triple century in Test cricket. He joins a prestigious list that includes legendary players like Andy Sandham, Len Hutton, Wally Hammond, Graham Gooch, and Bill Edrich. Interestingly, his feat is even more significant considering he’s the first Englishman to achieve this landmark in Pakistan.

The 25-year-old achieved his triple century in just 310 deliveries, making him the second fastest batter in Test history to reach this milestone. While Brook surpassed Virender Sehwag‘s record in Multan (364 balls in 2004), the Indian maestro still holds the overall record for the fastest triple century, achieved against South Africa in 2008 (278 balls).

Joe Root and Brook dominate Pakistan

Brook’s heroics weren’t achieved in isolation. He formed a monumental partnership with Root, who himself smashed a career-best double century (262 runs). Together, they stitched an incredible 454-run stand, the highest ever recorded in an England-Pakistan Test match. This partnership eclipsed the previous record held by Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan (363 runs) set in Leeds back in 2006.

Prior to this match, Root had already surpassed Alastair Cook as England’s highest Test run scorer. His knock in Multan further solidified his position at the top, showcasing his continued dominance at the international level.

Brook’s Multan masterclass surpasses Sehwag’s legacy

In a city that has witnessed some of the most memorable batting performances in Test cricket history, Brook’s triple century in Multan stands out as a truly exceptional achievement. By surpassing Sehwag’s 20-years-old record for the highest individual score in a Test match at Multan, Brook not only cemented his place among the cricketing elite but also added another chapter to the storied history of this iconic venue. His innings was a masterclass of technique, temperament, and timing, showcasing his immense talent and potential for future greatness.
