The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Sunday, announced that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan will take over as captain of the national white-ball team for the upcoming limited-overs tours of Australia and Zimbabwe. Salman Ali Agha has been appointed vice-captain, a new responsibility that positions him as a key leader within the squad.

Rizwan’s elevation to captain marks a significant shift in Pakistan’s leadership structure, as he succeeds Babar Azam, who stepped down earlier this month. Known for his calm presence, exceptional batting, and competitive spirit, Rizwan has been a consistent performer in international cricket and a central figure in Pakistan’s white-ball line-up. The PCB’s decision signals confidence in his ability to lead the team through crucial back-to-back series.

Pakistan team to tour Australia in November

Rizwan’s first test as full-time skipper will come in Australia, where Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series and as many T20Is. The tour is set to begin on November 4, with the ODIs scheduled at iconic venues, including the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the teams will face off in the series opener. The second and third ODIs are scheduled for November 8 and 10, while the T20I series will follow from November 14. This tour represents a challenging start for Rizwan’s captaincy, as Pakistan looks to make a strong impression in Australia, known for its competitive pitches and challenging conditions.

Pakistan team to tour Zimbabwe in November-December

After Australia, Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe for another white-ball series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is, starting on November 24. Rizwan has been included in the ODI squad for Zimbabwe but will not participate in the T20Is, allowing vice-captain Salman Ali Agha to take over as captain for the shorter format. This arrangement underscores the PCB’s strategic approach in building a leadership core for the future, ensuring continuity and adaptability within the team.

With Pakistan looking to build momentum in white-ball cricket, especially in the ODI format ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the pressure will be on Rizwan and his team to deliver strong performances.
