After a successful outing against Pakistan, Australia will next challenge West Indies for a two-match series, starting January 17. Adelaide will host the first Test of the series, as a new chapter is set to begin in Australian cricket. Following David Warner’s retirement, Steven Smith has taken up the role of an opener while Cameron Green has made his return in the middle order.
West Indies, on the other hand, are going through a rough phase at the moment. They have called up seven uncapped players with at least three set to make their debuts in the Test team. Even so, skipper Kraigg Brathwaite is confident of their chances and hoping for a new era in West Indies cricket.
Australia however will be confident. Their pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are in remarkable form while Steve Smith and Marnus Labushcagne will eye to get back to their best against a relatively poor bowling attack of West Indies. Meanwhile, here are the three Australian players to watch out for in the series:
3. Steven Smith
Skipper Pat Cummins recently stated that Smith is very excited to open for Australia in Test cricket. He is currently getting the starts but not being able to convert them. The upcoming series against West Indies will give him the perfect opportunity to get back to his best and because of the same, he is one of the players to watch out for.
2. Mitchell Marsh
All-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been a beast for Australia in the middle order. He has been a force to reckon with and scored runs for fun against Pakistan. It will be difficult for the West Indies players to stop if he gets into the groove.
1. Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins is arguably the best Test cricket at the moment. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan called him the second greatest after Don Bradman after a terrific series against Pakistan and he will once again be a threat. West Indies batters will have a very hard time if Cummins gets into the rhythm.
