In a gripping Test match in Adelaide, Australia fell just short of securing a two-day victory, but their triumph seems inevitable. Josh Hazlewood showcased ruthless prowess by dismantling West Indies’ top order after Travis Head’s splendid hometown century provided a crucial lead on a challenging pitch against a spirited visiting attack.

The game, initially evenly poised midway through the day with Australia at six down and trailing by 20 runs, saw a decisive shift in momentum, aligning with pre-series predictions. Despite having to toil for their advantageous position, Australia’s dominance became evident, especially when Travis Head accelerated the scoring.

Australia find themselves in a favourable position in the Test, holding a significant 95-run lead on a two-paced track. Travis Head’s counter-attacking century played a pivotal role in altering the game’s course in Australia’s favour. While the West Indies bowlers put in commendable efforts, with Shamar Joseph shining with a five-wicket haul, it was Head’s innings that could prove to be the decisive factor in the long run.

Facing a deficit of 95 runs, the West Indies suffered another disappointing batting display, losing six wickets in less than a session, thereby gifting Australia a commanding position. Despite the West Indies finding a new bowling star in Shamar Joseph, who claimed a fifer on debut, their batting lacked the required application and they faltered big time.

Hazlewood, once again, displayed brilliance by claiming the first four wickets, exploiting just enough movement off the pitch. The West Indies’ shot-selection was subpar, placing Australia in a prime position to close out the game decisively tomorrow. In summary, Australia’s performance, anchored by Head’s century and Hazlewood’s bowling mastery, has set the stage for an imminent victory, leaving the West Indies with an uphill task to salvage the Test.
