Bangladesh and Afghanistan are all set to lock horns in the first T20I match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday, July 14. Afghanistan are heading into the two-match T20I series on the back of an ODI series win by a 2-1 scoreline.

On the other hand, the Bangla Tigers came back strong in the third and final ODI, winning the game comprehensively by seven wickets in a low-scoring affair. As the attention turns towards the T20Is, the two sides will be gunning to conclude the series on a winning note.

Speaking about their head-to-head records in the last five meetings, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have won two each and one game couldn’t yield a result. Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will lead the side whereas Afif Hossain and Ebadot Hossain have made their way back into the set-up.

Coming to the Afghan set-up, the selection committee recalled veteran batter Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazai in the 16-member squad led by Rashid Khan. Former skipper Gulbadin Naib, Afsar Zazai, Usman Ghani, and Sharafuddin Ashraf found no place in the T20I squad.

The track at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium has something in it for the bowlers as they will be able to extract decent amount of pace and bounce. Batters from both teams will need to be razor sharp in order to put up a good fight and score big. In addition to this, the pitch gets slower as the match progress and either skipper winning the toss may elect to bat first.
