The one-off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan began on Wednesday, June 14 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan walked out to the middle to give a good start to their side.
However, their hopes were crushed as Nijat Masood dismissed Zakir Hasan (1) in the very second over with just six runs on the board. After the early blow, Mahmudul Hasan Joy (76) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (146) got together at the crease and put on a massive 212-run stand for the second wicket. Their partnership was broken by Rahmat Shah who dismissed Joy.
Mominul Haque (15) walked in next and added 38 runs for the third wicket with Shanto before getting dismissed against Nijat Masood. Shanto also departed quickly after losing his partner and got out to Amir Hamza. Captain Litton Das also failed to get a big score against his name, getting dismissed to Zahir Khan for just 9 leaving Bangladesh at 290/5.
After a flurry of wickets, Mushfiqur Rahim (41*) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (43*) got involved in an unbeaten 72-run stand to take their team to Stumps without losing any more wickets. Bangladesh finished Day 1 on 362/5 and Nijat Masood was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan on Day 1 with his figures of 2/67 in 13 overs.

Najmul Hossain Shanto
The 24-year-old played a magnificent knock of 146 (175) after Bangladesh lost a wicket early. He got involved in a massive 212-run stand to bail his team out of trouble. Shanto’s innings was studded with 23 fours and two sixes as he batted at an impressive strike rate of 83.43.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy
The 22-year-old crafted a placid but effective knock after losing his opening partner early on. He played a brilliant innings of 76 (137) and added a massive 212 runs for the second wicket. Joy’s innings was studded with nine boundaries, however, he missed out on his hundred but certainly helped his team in getting to a formidable position.
