The second T20I of the series between India women and Bangladesh women was full of ups and downs. After their win in the first game, team India looked keen on registering yet another victory and clinching the series as well. Notably, both sides took each other on in the second T20I on Tuesday, July 11, at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, and India won the low-scoring encounter in thrilling fashion by eight runs.

Coming into bat after winning the toss, India put in a horrid performance with the bat. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma scored 13 and 19 runs, respectively, before they were sent back to the pavilion. Furthermore, the entirety of the Indian middle order failed to make an impact on the game, as most batters were dismissed quite early in their innings. Amanjot Kaur’s late push of 14 runs and Deepti Sharma’s 10 helped the visitors post 95 runs on the board in the first innings.

Sultana Khatun was the highest wicket taker for Bangladesh in the first innings, taking three wickets and conceding 21 runs in four overs. Aiming to chase the meagre target of 96 runs down, Bangladesh looked to be heading towards a win, however, the Indian bowling attack pulled off the greatest of comebacks.

The entirety of Bangladesh’s batting line-up was at the mercy of the Indian bowlers, as only skipper Nigar Sultana was able to move past the score of 10 runs in the entire squad. Openers Shamima Sultana and Shathi Rani were sent packing for five runs each, with Murshida Khatun adding only four runs on the board as well. Sultana was the highest run getter for Bangladesh as she amassed 38 runs to her name, but that too was not enough in the end as Shafali Verma’s brilliant final over held the hosts as India won the game by eight runs.

Best batter

Nigar Sultana: Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana was the best batter in the fixture between India and Bangladesh. The 25-year-old scored 38 runs and stood at the crease when the entire batting line-up collapsed behind her. Her valiant effort, however, was not enough to propel Bangladesh to a win.

Best bowler

Shafali Verma

19-year-old Shafali Verma was undoubtedly the best bowler in the match between India and Bangladesh. In the three overs she bowled, she conceded 15 runs and took three wickets. Furthermore, her final over heroics were crucial for India winning the game.

What’s next for both teams?

India and Bangladesh take each other on in the third T20I of the series on Thursday, July 13.
