Bangladesh and India locked horns with each other in the third and final T20I of the series on Thursday, July 13 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. India had taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and were looking to maintain their stronghold over Bangladesh. On the other hand, the hosts were eager to salvage their pride by avoiding a whitewash.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bat first, however, her side didn’t get off to a good start as opener Smriti Mandhana lost her wicket in the second over itself for 1(2). Her partner Shafali Verma also failed to get her innings going and also fell prey to Sultana Khatun for 11 (14). Following her dismissal, captain Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues stabilized the innings with their 45-run stand..
Rodrigues (28 off 26) got dismissed in the 12th over trying to get a move on but Harmanpreet continued her innings. She fell ten runs short of her half-century (40 off 41) getting out stumped against Fahima Khatun and left India on 91/4 after 16.2 overs.
After the captain returned to the pavilion, India suffered a dramatic collapse and were restricted to 102/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Rabeya Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as she picked up 3/16 in four overs while Sultana Khatun also picked up 2/17.
In reply, Bangladesh also lost their opener Shathi Rani (10 off 9) in the second over. Dilara Akter (1 off 7) walked in at number three but also departed cheaply leaving her side at 16/2 after four overs. After two early wickets, Shamima Sultana and captain Nigar Sultana got involved in a 46-run stand for the third wicket.
Shamima played a brilliant knock of 42 (46) and left her side on the brink of victory at 86/6 after 16.2 overs. Ritu Moni (7* off 8) and Nahida Akter (10* off 6) guided their team to a historic win against India as they chased down the target in 18.2 overs.
