Both Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have qualified for the playoffs of the ongoing Big Bash League 2024. Last year, they met in the Qualifier, in which, the Scorchers defeated the Sixers by seven wickets and eventually went on to win the title. This year, Perth Scorchers are second on the points table at the moment while the Sixers are third. Thus, the upcoming match holds a lot of value, as the winner will get another opportunity even if they lose the first qualifier.
When it comes to form, Scorchers lost two out of their last five matches in the league. In the last match, they defeated league leaders Brisbane Heat by 35 runs, which should give the Aaron Hardie-led side much-needed confidence ahead of the playoffs. However, there are a lot of concerns as well.
The batting unit hasn’t fired in recent times. Nick Hobson produced a spectacular knock which helped the team get the win over Brisbane but the team cannot expect him to repeat on a regular basis. Bowlers looked to be in good form, with Andrey Tye and Lance Morris leading the charts.
When it comes to the Sixers, they will miss the service of Steven Smith as the batter has joined the Australian squad for the upcoming two-match Test series. The Moises Henriques-led side are unbeaten for the last two games as they defeated city rivals Thunder by 19 runs in the last match. Josh Phillipe and Jordan Silk are in good form with the bat, while Steven OKeefe has been sensational.
