The second game of the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will see the clash between Chattogram Challengers versus Sylhet Strikers. The match will be played at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on January 19, Friday.
Chattogram had a forgettable campaign in the 2023 edition of the BPL as they finished at the bottom of the seven-team points table. They will be aiming to bounce back and win their first title in the tenth edition of the tournament under the captaincy of Shuvagata Hom.
Chattogram’s best result came in the second edition of the BPL when they finished as the runner-ups. Chittagong Kings (Chattogram’s first name) were outplayed by Dhaka Gladiators (Durdanto Dhaka) in the final in 2013.
On the other hand, Sylhet Strikers, who made their debut in the 2017 edition, enjoyed a memorable campaign in the previous game. The Strikers finished at the top of the points table and reached the finals. However, they fell short against Comilla Victorians in the summit clash and thereby lost the chance to win their first title. They will probably carry forward their previous year’s performance under the leaderships of coach Rajin Saleh and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Speaking about the pitch in Mirpur, it has a batting-friendly surface. Therefore, the toss-winning captain will look to opt to bat first in order to put up a competitive total on the board. In addition, the average first innings score is 140 in the last T20 matches.
