Franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) had a dismal season in the IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League) season. The 2022 champions failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their history. Even in 2023, they did well and qualified for the final, only to lose a thriller to CSK. 2024 was a forgettable season for them as neither the players did individually well nor did they do well as a team. A lot of it had to do with the poor form of some of their star players and the selection conundrum which comes along with it.

The absence of Mohammed Shami was a big blow as they did not have a potent new-ball attack. The return of Hardik Pandya to MI meant GT lacked a good All-rounder. Some of their key players like Rashid Khan, David Miller, and Shubman Gill were not at their best. Despite that GT did not make any changes despite the poor form of some players and having a lot of talented players to replace them in the dugout.

Here are three players who were underutilized by Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024:

3. Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan played some good cameos for GT. The right-handed batter played aggressive knocks against some of the best bowlers in the world. However, he was a part of the team mostly in the second half of the tournament. In the 7 matches for the side, he scored 127 runs at a batting SR of 169.33 and was handy as a bowler in a match.

2. Kartik Tyagi

Kartik Tyagi was too good to play a solitary match for the side. The right-arm pacer operates at a good pace. Yet, he was snubbed from the playing XI. Though he went expensive in the only match he played, an emerging bowler like him could have made a difference if he was given a longer rope and enough backing by the GT team management.

Joshua Little got to play a solitary match for Gujarat Titans. In the last two matches, he was in the playing XI but unfortunately, he couldn’t take the field as GT’s matches were washed out. In the lone fixture he played, Little bowled well and claimed 4/45 in his spell of 4 overs against RCB. The emerging bowler claimed the big wickets of RCB batters. He should have gotten more chances than he did in the season.
