The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) stood out from the previous seasons, thanks to some ruthless batting performances from almost every team. Bowlers had a hell of a time as their counterparts decided to put on a show that demonstrated how the T20 format will be played in the years to come.
Several records were broken, including the highest team score ever in league history. IPL 2024 proved that 250+ scores are no longer safe in the tournament. Apart from just concentrating on accumulating runs, batters have always kept an eye on strike rate. With that said, let’s take a look at the five best batters of the season.
Here are the top five batters of IPL 2024:

Abhishek Sharma has performed decently in the past seasons and finally had a breakout season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024. The southpaw was one of the key reasons behind SRH’s remarkable campaign this season. Along with Travis Head, he has often made fiery starts in the powerplay and has given the team a strong start.
In 16 matches, the opening batter has amassed 484 runs at an average of 32.27 and a staggering strike rate of 204.22. He also has three half-centuries to his credit. Whenever the opposition bowlers failed to take his wicket in the initial overs, the 23-year-old made them pay with his ruthless hitting.

The partnership of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma made the job very easy for the rest of the SRH batters and bowlers. While most teams look for a left-right opening combination, SRH have been able to blow away their opponents with these two left-handers. There is no guarantee that the Australian will stay at the crease for much longer, but that limited period should be enough for him to do maximum damage.

Head finished the tournament as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 567 runs from 15 innings at an average of 40.50 and an impressive strike rate of 191.55. He has also hit four half-centuries and a century, which was also the fourth fastest in league history (39 balls). However, the southpaw failed to live up to the expectations in the knockout stage.
3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

The IPL 2024 was a special one for Ruturaj Gaikwad. The 27-year-old was handed the captaincy baton of the five-time champions from MS Dhoni and he did not disappoint. Although Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to qualify for the playoffs, Gaikwad’s captaincy and the way he managed his batting was impressive.
The right-hander led the team from the front without letting the pressure of captaincy affect his performance. He finished the tournament as the second-leading run-scorer with 583 runs at an average of 53.00. He also has four half-centuries and a hundred to his credit.
2. Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag has never been immune to criticism for his lacklustre performances, but this season he turned his haters back to his fans. With Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal taking a back seat, Parag emerged as Rajasthan Royals’ best batter of the season.
Batting at No. 4, the right-hander scored 573 runs at an incredible average of 52.09, including four fifties. Whenever the team needed someone to bail them out of trouble, he was there. By showing character and maturity throughout the season, Parag convinced the management to retain him for one more year.

Virat Kohli has once again proved that he is synonymous with consistency. Kohli became the first Indian player to score more than 700 runs in a season twice in league history. In 2016, he competed against players of his age group and this year against his juniors. The Orange Cap winner was instrumental in RCB qualifying for the playoffs.
