IPL 2024: Rating the top 10 batters based on their performance after league stage

After nearly two months of non-stop high-octane cricket, the league phase matches of the IPL 2024 season has come to an end. Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad had made it to the playoffs earlier. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who were bottom of the table at one stage, made it to the playoffs after beating Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs in their last league match.

This year, the standard of batting has been at an all-time high. Sunrisers Hyderabad recorded the highest team total twice this season and Punjab Kings scored 262 runs in a massive successful chase to set a new record in the history of T20 cricket. 

While the teams had been creating new records with their amazing batting skills, batters have given a tremendous show to entertain the fans. IPL 2024 has seen some of the established stars take their legend to new heights while a few batters left the fans dumbfounded with their talents.

Here are the top ten batters from the league stage of IPL 2024:

10. Faf du Plessis – Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 3/10

Veteran South African batter and Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis didn’t have a great start to the IPL 2024 season. However, by the end of the league phase matches, the 39-year-old has scored 421 runs with four half-centuries and a strike rate of 163.81. Faf du Plessis could only score 65 runs from his first four games before his amazing run of form began and eventually led his team to the playoffs. 

9. Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals – 3/10

Delhi Capitals and Indian cricket fans were happy to see Rishabh Pant make his return to the game after missing over a year. Rishabh Pant played 13 matches this year and scored 446 runs with an average of 40.54 and strike rate of 155.40. The best knock from the blade of the Delhi Capitals skipper came against Gujarat Titans where he scored an unbeaten 88 including a brutal assault on Mohit Sharma in the final over of the innings.

8. Phil Salt – Kolkata Knight Riders – 4/10

Kolkata Knight Riders made a shrewd choice to replace Jason Roy with Englishman Phil Salt ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Phil Salt repaid the faith bestowed upon him with 435 runs from 12 matches at a strike rate of 182. His partnerships at the top of the order with Sunil Narine helped his side win a lot of matches and also struck fear into the hearts of the opposition bowlers.

7. Abhishek Sharma – Sunrisers Hyderabad – 5/10

If there is one young Indian batter who has left everyone in complete awe it is Abhishek Sharma. The 23-year-old has displayed his talent with the bat and taken the bowlers to the cleaners with his aggressive approach. The youngster has so far scored over 467 runs at an unbelievable strike rate of over 209.41 runs with three half-centuries to his name. If he can continue in the same vein and help SRH win the title, a call-up to the Indian team may not be too far.

6. Sanju Samson – Rajasthan Royals – 5/10

The Rajasthan Royals skipper has put up yet another strong season with the bat scoring over 500 runs for the first time in his IPL career. Sanju Samson has been cool and calm behind the stumps as a wicket-keeper and captain. The 29-year-old’s best moment of the season came when he scored 71* runs from 33 balls to help his side win in a key encounter against LSG. 

5. Riyan Parag – Rajasthan Royals – 5/10

For a youngster who was trolled for his outlandish statements ahead of the IPL 2023 season, Riyan Parag has turned a new leaf. The 22-year-old worked on his game and came into IPL 2024 on the back of his amazing domestic form. Scoring over 500 runs with an average of 59 and a strike-rate above 150 shows the talent that he has with the bat. Riyan Parag’s 84 not out from 45 balls against Delhi Capitals reaffirmed the newly found belief that Riyan Parag has attained with the bat.

4. Ruturaj Gaikwad – Chennai Super Kings – 6/10

Chennai Super Kings came into the season as the defending champions but their season ended with a huge heartbreak. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the only batter who put great performances. In the 14 matches that Ruturaj Gaikwad played for Chennai Super Kings, he scored 583 runs with one century and four half-centuries. Ruturaj Gaikwad ended with an average of 53 and a strike rate of 141.16. 

3. Nicholas Pooran – Lucknow Super Giants – 7/10

Despite the sad end to what was a promising season for Lucknow Super Giants, Nicholas Pooran will come out as one of the best batters of IPL 2024. The West Indian star ended the season a run short of the 500-run mark with an average of 62.37 and a strike rate of 178.21. Pooran began the season with a blistering 64 against Rajasthan Royals. His 40 not out off 21 balls against RCB was a huge moment of the season as it helped LSG win the game. With knock of 61 and 75 against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians respectively, Nicholas Pooran ended the season on a high.

2. Travis Head – Sunrisers Hyderabad – 8/10

After his amazing exploits with the bat for Australia, Travis Head was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the IPL 2024 season. The 30-year-old has taken run-scoring to new heights. Travis Head scored an amazing century off 39 balls during the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Just like his opening partner, Travis Head also has scored runs at over 200.

After missing out on action for a period of two months, many fans were curious to see how Virat Kohli will perform. The former India and RCB skipper has scored 708 runs from 14 games with one century and five half-centuries. Kohli ended the league phase matches with an average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60.
