The inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have consistently performed well in recent years, regularly reaching the playoffs. In the 2024 edition, under Sanju Samson’s leadership, they finished third in the group stage with eight wins from 14 games. They started the knockout stages with a bang as they defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the eliminator by four wickets but fell short against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2.
As the mega-auction approaches, the Royals face crucial decisions regarding player retention. With the BCCI’s retention rules still not finalized every choice will be pivotal for their future success. Let us have a look at three potential players that RR could retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Ace pacer, Trent Boult is likely to be retained by Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming mega auctions. Since joining the franchise in 2022, Boult has been a valuable asset, claiming 45 wickets in 41 matches over three seasons. His performance in the last season was particularly impressive, with 16 wickets in 15 innings.
Boult’s ability to swing the ball both ways and maintain excellent line and length makes him a dangerous bowler. In the powerplay, the Kiwi pacer scalped 12 wickets, making an impact earlier in the innings. The left-arm pacer will be once again given the responsibility to lead the bowling attack and pick crucial wickets for the side. The team management will be hoping for a similar performance from their experienced pacer in this edition as well.

The young Indian opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, is likely to be another player to be retained by the Royals in the upcoming season. Since his national team debut, Jaiswal has evolved significantly which has benefited the franchise. His aggressive approach at the start of the innings is valuable to the side, along with his excellent fielding and part-time spin bowling.
Jaiswal’s ability to accelerate when needed has earned him the team’s trust. In the previous season, he scored 435 runs in 15 innings, including a half-century and a century against Mumbai Indians. The team is expected to continue investing in Jaiswal, hoping for similar or improved performances in the future.
