The IPL 2025 has always been a platform where players from all over world cricket emerge and compete together. From the youngsters to absolute veterans of the game, the IPL has always been a celebration of the sport. 

With the conclusion of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, there were several veterans who continued to make an impact in the auction of the upcoming season of the cash-rich league of India. Many experienced yet oldest players have been inducted into the squad of different teams.

10. Ishant Sharma – 36 Years 90 Days

Veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma scripted history in the IPL auction; he became the only cricketer to be sold in the IPL 2008 auction and the 2025 mega auction as well. After competing for Delhi Capitals, Ishant Sharma was roped in by Gujarat Titans for INR 75 lakhs.

At 36 years and 90 days old, Ishant Sharma became the 10th oldest player who will be featuring in the IPL 2025. It is worth noting that Sharma has played 79 matches in the IPL so far where he has taken 93 wickets. In the twilight of his career, Titans will hope that they can get the most out of Ishant’s services.

9. Ajinkya Rahane – 36 Years 178 Days

Veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane will be the 9th oldest player to feature in the IPL 2025 at the age of 36 years and 178 days old. Rahane was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders at his base price of INR 1.5 crore, and a true veteran of the game, Rahane will once again be seen on the field. 

Over the years, the veteran batter has played 185 matches in the IPL, where he has amassed 4,642 runs to his name and maintains an average of 30.14 runs. Kolkata will hope that Rahane can settle quickly and be a real aid in the side’s title defence.

8. Sunil Narine – 36 Years 189 Days

At 36 years and 189 days old, Sunil Narine will be the 8th oldest player to feature in the IPL 2025. Still at his best in the twilight of his career, Narine was exceptional for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, with both the bat and the ball. 

Narine was retained by KKR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, and with 176 matches played in the tournament, Narine has scored 1534 runs and has taken 180 wickets in the process. With a century to his name in the IPL 2024, KRR will hope that Narine can once again run riots as the opener for them.

7. Andre Russell – 36 Years 216 Days

Star West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was also retained by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2025. At 36 years and 216 days old, Russell will be the 7th oldest player in the new season of the IPL. However, with several years of experience, Russell is one of the most explosive players in the squad, with the ability to turn any game around. 

 With 126 matches played in the IPL, Russell has scored 2,484 runs to his name and has taken 115 wickets as well. He could go on to be an important part of KKR’s title defence in 2025.

6. Karn Sharma – 37 Years, 39 Days

Yet another veteran in his field, Karn Sharma, was roped in by Mumbai Indians for INR 50 lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He will become the 6th oldest player to feature in the IPL 2025 at 37 years and 39 days of age. 

It is worth noting that Karn Sharma has played 84 games in the IPL so far, where he has managed to score 350 runs and take 76 wickets as well. MI will hope to get the most out of Karn in the new season of the tournament.

5. Moeen Ali – 37 Years 166 Days

Veteran England all-rounder Moeen Ali will feature in the IPL for yet another season; at 37 years and 166 days of age, Ali will be the 5th oldest player in the tournament. He was roped in by defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 2 crore in the mega auction. 

Ali has been influential for any side that he has played for. Efficient with both the bat and the ball, Moeen Ali will look to give his best once again. Having played 67 IPL matches in his career, Ali has scored 1162 runs and taken 35 wickets as well.

4. Rohit Sharma – 37 Years 215 Days

Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was retained by Mumbai Indians for INR 16.3 crore ahead of the IPL 2025. He will be the fourth oldest player in the tournament at 37 years and 215 days of age. Rohit has led MI to five IPL titles and is one of the best players in the competition’s history. 

With 257 matches played, Rohit has managed to score 6,628 runs to his name and has been a stalwart for Mumbai Indians. The side will hope that he will be in top form in the new season as well.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin – 38 years 75 Days

Veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was welcomed home by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 mega auction. At a price of 9.75 crore, Chennai roped in Ashwin’s services, and with his inclusion in the IPL confirmed, Ashwin will be the third oldest player in the tournament at 38 years and 75 days old. 

Ashwin has played for several sides in the IPL; most recently, he was a part of Rajasthan Royals and managed to reach the summit clash of the tournament with the side in 2022. However, he has played his best cricket in Chennai Super Kings, and the five-time champions will hope for more of the same from him.

2. Faf Du Plessis – 40 Years 141 Days

Former skipper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis, was roped in by Delhi Capitals for his base price of INR 2 crore. At 40 years and 141 days of age, Du Plessis is the 2nd oldest player in the tournament, but is still lethal in the top order. 

In 145 IPL matches played, Du Plessis has scored 4,571 runs to his name and continues to defy his age, proving that it is just a number. Capitals will hope for some good starts with Du Plessis as their potential opener.

Former skipper of Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni, is the oldest player who will feature in the IPL 2025 at 43 years and 147 days old. In the limelight of his playing career, Dhoni continues to show up as a gift to the many fans of the franchise. 

Having led CSK to five IPL titles, Dhoni has won it all. However, he is prepared and ready for yet another season of the IPL.
