6IXTY Cricket details, rules, schedule, teams and squads
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have unveiled The 6ixty, a new franchise tournament. The 6ixty 2022, the first iteration of the competition, started on August 24. The tournament will feature a total of 12 games.
The format and rules of the event is rather different from those of typical cricket matches. Each innings in the The 6ixty 2022 competition will have ten overs. To add some originality and interest to the tournament, additional regulations have also been included.
CPL’s CEO Pete Russell, says “It is very exciting to be able to confirm the fixtures for this season with this announcement being all the more special with the WCPL taking place for the first time in 2022. We can’t wait to be back travelling around the Caribbean and we are looking forward to welcoming our wonderful fans back into the stadiums across the region.”
The games’ rules will change a little from those of typical cricket contests. Ten over will be played by each team during batting. From one end, 30 of these will be bowled. The final 30 balls will then be tossed from the opposite end. One bowler is only allowed to bowl a maximum of two overs throughout an innings, and these 30 balls will be bowled in 5 different overs.
There will only be six wickets for each team. The team shall be regarded as out after the removal of the sixth wicket. There will be 2 powerplay overs for each batting team. By hitting two sixes in the first 12 balls, they can start the third power play over. The third to ninth overs are available for this additional powerplay over.
One player will be taken off the field for the final six balls if the sides do not finish their overs in the allotted time. The time of a “mystery free hit,” in which a batsman cannot be removed by the bowler, will be decided by the audience.
