After suffering an embarrassing defeat at the hands of India in the second ODI in Indore, Australia will be aiming to make a strong comeback in order to get some momentum ahead of the ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5. The likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh are expected to make their return to the playing XI and hence, the Kangaroos will be confident of their chances.

On the other hand, David Warner hit a cracking half-century in the last match and that should give him some much-needed confidence. However, the Test specialists Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne need to get better ahead of the mega tournament. Meanwhile, here are the three cricketers who can play an important part for Australia in the upcoming clash in Rajkot.

3. Marcus Stoinis

Australia lacked the much-needed firepower in the middle order in the last match. Flamboyant batter Marcus Stoinis can very well fix that. He is likely to replace Cameron Green in the playing XI and hence, will be playing a crucial role in the mix. He has represented the national team in 64 ODIs so far and has hit 1400 runs at a strike rate of 94.02.

2. Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc hasn’t played a single match after the Ashes 2023. He suffered two back-to-back injuries which kept him out of action for quite some time. Hence, it’s the perfect time for him to get into the groove and prepare well for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Notably, he has represented Australia in 110 ODIs and picked up 219 wickets in the process.

1. David Warner

Southpaw David Warner showed glimpses of his form in the last match but there’s a lot of room for improvement. He tried to bat right-handed as well in the last match but didn’t quite work out. He will be extremely important for Australia in the mega tournament and hence, just like Starc, Warner will aim to get into the flow.
