India and Australia are all set to continue their ongoing ODI series as they gear up to face each other in the final game of the series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27. India have already won the series as they put forth brilliant performances in the first two games of the series.
However, Australia will be keen on improving on their performance and getting a win in the final ODI. Despite it being just a consolation game. Speaking of the second ODI, Australia opted to bowl first and that turned out to be the wrong decision as India put forth a sensational performance.
After Ruturaj Gaikwad’s early dismissal, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer played brilliant knocks. Gill amassed 104 runs in 97 deliveries, with Iyer scoring 105 runs in 90 balls. Furthermore, KL Rahul scored 52 runs in 38 balls, with Suryakumar Yadav scoring 72* runs in 37 deliveries. Team India posted 399 runs on the board in the first innings, giving the Aussies a huge target of 400 runs.
Speaking of Australia’s performance in the first innings, Cameron Green was the highest wicket taker for the visitors with two wickets. With Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, and Adam Zampa taking one wicket each.
Aiming to chase down the mammoth target, Australia got off to a horrid start as Matt Short was dismissed for just nine runs. Furthermore, Steve Smith was sent back to the pavilion on a golden duck. David Warner did play a resilient knock, scoring 53 runs in 39 balls.
After the middle-order’s failure to go big, Sean Abbott scored a half-century as well. Amassing 54 runs in 36 balls, Abbott looked to bring Australia close to a win. However, the side was bundled out for 217 runs as they lost the game by 99 runs through the DLS method in a rain ridden clash.
As the third and final ODI looms around the corner, India will hope for a clean sweep, whereas Australia will look to get a consolation win.
