India’s upcoming five-match Test series against England holds a lot of value. After a disappointing defeat at the hands of Australia in the World Test Championship finale, they went on to win the two-match West Indies series 1-0, while finishing 1-1 against South Africa. The Rohit Sharma-led side hasn’t been convincing in the longest format and against the Three Lions, they might struggle if their batting doesn’t improve.
England, on the other hand, have revolutionized Test cricket by playing an aggressive brand of cricket. However, it will be a tough challenge for them in India. A lot of players don’t have enough experience in the spin-friendly conditions of India. Ben Stokes and Joe Root will play a key part for them in the series, which the others will have to step up massively to make a difference.
Here are three players from across camps who can prove their worth in the upcoming series:
3. Rehan Ahmed
19-year-old Rehan Ahmed played just one Test match before coming to India. He has done remarkably well in domestic cricket and following which, he was called up to the national team. He has a massive challenge on his plate now as the upcoming series against the Rohit Sharma-led side can define his career going forward.
2. Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer has been a force to reckon with in the subcontinent conditions. He has delivered time and again but his form is a bit concerning at the moment. The 29-year-old would eye the upcoming Test series against England as a perfect opportunity to return back to form and cement his spot in the playing XI.
1. Ollie Pope
Considered as England’s future Test captain, Ollie Pope has got what it takes to succeed in India. He has played four Test matches in the subcontinent but couldn’t make a mark. He has developed massively since then and will be key for the Three Lions.
