The three-match T20I series between India and Australia is intriguingly poised at 1-1. India won the first game by nine wickets before the Aussies bounced back with a six-wicket win in the second. The decisive third ODI takes place at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday, January 9. In this article, we take a look at three players who could play a key role for Australia in the all-important clash.
3. Kim Garth – The Aussie seamer didn’t play the first T20I but was picked for the second game. She used the new ball to a nicety and picked up the important wickets of Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues in her first and second over, respectively. Garth finished with impressive figures of 2/27 in four overs. Her role with the new ball is going to be crucial once again in the third T20I.
2. Ellyse Perry – The experienced campaigner has been excellent with the bat in the two games. In the first T20I, Perry resurrected the Australian innings as she scored a 30-ball 37. She followed it up with another solid knock of 34 not off 21 balls in the second T20I to take the tourists to a comfortable six-wicket win with an over to spare. Perry hit a six off Shreyanka Patil to finish the match.
1. Phoebe Litchfield – The young left-handed batter has shown her class in the first two games. Litchfield has played some audacious shots to bamboozle the Indian bowlers. She top-scored for the Aussies in the first game, scoring an enterprising 32 off 49 balls. In the second T20I, when things were getting a bit tight, Litchfield hit 10 runs off the first three balls of the penultimate over to ease the tension in the Australian camp. She eventually finished unbeaten on 18 off 12 balls.
