Chennai Super Kings marched closer to sealing their spot in the playoffs as they beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs on Wednesday, May 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
After opting to bat first, Chennai posted 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs. No batter from CSK could stay for long at the crease as DC’s spinners kept on chipping away with wickets during the middle overs. Cameos from Ruturaj Gaikwad (24 off 18), Shivam Dube (25 off 12), Ambati Rayudu (23 off 17), Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 16) and Dhoni helped their side cross the 160-run mark. Mitchell Marsh was the pick of the bowlers for DC as he scalped 3/18 in his three-over spell.
In reply, DC got off to a horrible start losing David Warner, Philip Salt and Mitchell Marsh inside the powerplay. However, a run-a-ball 59-run stand between Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw brought them back into the game.
Following their dismissals, only Axar Patel (21 off 12) showed some fight with his cameo as other batters failed to keep up with the required run rate. As a result, DC finished their innings on 140/8 handing a 27-run win to CSK.
