The 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will feature a heavyweight clash between the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals and four-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, April 12.
Both sides will be coming into the match with a win in their previous games as Chennai Super Kings won their previous clash against Mumbai Indians, whereas Rajasthan Royals won their previous game against Delhi Capitals.
For their previous encounter, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai travelled to Mumbai to take on the five-time champions at the Wankhede Stadium. In the game, Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first.
In the first innings, the spin attack of Chennai proved to be too much to handle for Mumbai. Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma did look to provide their side with a good start. However, both batters were dismissed quite early on. Kishan amassed 32 runs, whereas Rohit scored 21 runs to his name.
Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, and Tushar Deshpande put in exceptional performances with the ball as Mumbai managed to post just 157 runs on the board after 20 overs. In the second innings, Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his red-hot form, scoring an unbeaten 40 runs. However, it was Ajinkya Rahane’s explosive hitting that propelled Chennai to a fabulous win.
In the end, Chennai won the game by seven wickets, and the four-time champions will look for a similar performance against Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, the 2022 season finalists, will be keen on registering their third win of the season.
They played their previous game against the David Warned-led Delhi Capitals. Batting first, Rajasthan got off to a wonderful start as Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal attacked the opposition right from the start.
Jaiswal notched up 60 runs in just 31 deliveries, whereas Buttler scored 79 runs. By the end of the first innings, Rajasthan had posted 199 runs on the board. During the run-chase, they followed it up with fabulous performances with the ball. Both Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets each to seal the win for their side.
The fans are in for quite a spectacle as Rajasthan Royals take on Chennai Super Kings in the next game. It could be quite a challenge for the visitors to breach the fortress, but the Sanju Samson-led side will hope for similar performance as in their previous games as they look to register a win at Chepauk.
