The Indian Premier League 2023 will continue its breathtaking action on Sunday, April 23 as Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns in match 33 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Chennai are coming into the match having won their last two encounters against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. On the other hand, KKR have lost their last three matches and are desperate for a win.
CSK are ranked on the third spot on the points table with four wins out of six matches. They defeated SRH in their previous fixture by seven wickets and registered their second consecutive win. After opting to bowl first, they restricted SRH to 134/7 courtesy of a three-wicket haul by Ravindra Jadeja.
In reply, they chased down the target with eight balls to spare as Devon Conway played a sensational knock of 77* off 57 balls. Conway has been the leading run scorer for CSK with 258 runs to his name in six innings at an average of 51.60 and a strike rate of 144.13.
On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign has gone astray after their consecutive wins against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans. They lost their next three games after the two emphatic wins and are now placed on the eighth spot with two wins from six matches.
KKR’s bowling has let them down in the season so far, however, they showed great fight while defending a total of 127 in the previous game against Delhi Capitals and took the match till the final over.
Venkatesh Iyer has been the leading run scorer for KKR so far with 234 runs to his name in six innings at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 168.34. With the ball, Varun Chakravarthy has been the most successful bowler having nine wickets to his name at an average of 18.11 and an economy of 7.52.
The Nitish Rana-led side desperately needs a win to bring its confidence back and will look to give tough competition to CSK. On the other hand, CSK will look to continue their winning momentum and complete a hat-trick of wins.
