Delhi Capitals locked horns with Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow in the third match of the ongoing IPL.
Delhi skipper David Warner won the toss and asked Lucknow to bat first. Lucknow didn’t get off to the best of starts as captain KL Rahul was dismissed in the fourth over after scoring just 8 runs. After his wicket, Kyle Mayers took charge in the middle and hammered the Delhi bowlers.
He went on to play an astounding knock of 73 off 38 balls hitting two fours and seven sixes. Following his departure Nicholas Pooran (36 off 21) and Krunal Pandya (15* off 13) added 48 runs for the fifth wicket off 26 deliveries.
Ayush Badoni (18 off 7) and the Impact Player Krishnappa Gowtham (6* off 1) provided a near-perfect finish for Lucknow as they posted a massive 193/6 in their 20 overs. Khaleel Ahmed stood out for Delhi as he picked up 2/30 in his 4 overs while Chetan Sakariya also picked up 2/53 in 4 overs.
In response, Delhi got off to a decent start. Warner and Prithvi Shaw added 41 runs up front. However, Mark Wood destroyed the furniture of Shaw and Mitchell Marsh on back-to-back deliveries in the fifth over to get his side into a commanding position.
Delhi skipper and Rilee Rossouw tried to steady the innings, however, they couldn’t extend their partnership beyond 38. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi sent Rossouw packing.
Warner was trying his best to keep his side in the game, however, he perished in the 16th over. Following his dismissal there was no steam left in Delhi’s arsenal as they finished with 143/9. Mark Wood returned in the final over and picked up two more wickets and finished his quota with a five-wicket haul.
