The 54th match of the IPL 2023 saw the clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RB) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 9. The five-time IPL champions defeated RCB by six wickets in a high-scoring encounter.
MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first. Jason Behrendorff has provided Mumbai with a massive breakthrough in the first over itself as he dismissed opener Virat Kohli for just one run. He also removed the number three batter, Anuj Rawat. Meanwhile, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell came in and formed a crucial partnership with Du Plessis as MI were 56/2 after the powerplay.
Maxwell smashed a 68 off 33 balls before being dismissed by Behrendorff while Du Plessis scored 65 runs from 41 deliveries and was removed by Cameron Green. However, their stunning knock helped RCB set a 200-run target for the hosts. For MI, Chris Jordan and Kumar Karthikeya grabbed one wicket each while Behrendorff got three.
In reply, MI openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan produced a steady start for the hosts. However, Wanindu Hasaranga struck twice in the fifth over, dismissing the keeper-batter for 42 runs and trapping Rohit (7) LBW. However, Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav led the charge for MI, putting on a 133-run partnership for the third wicket.
Suryakumar hammered RCB bowlers, scoring 35-ball 83, including seven boundaries and six maximums before being dismissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak. Meanwhile, Wadhera scored an unbeaten 52 off 34 balls as MI chased down the target in 16.3 overs. Apart from Hasaranga, Vyshak also took two wickets for RCB.
Best batter of the match
Suryakumar Yadav led the charge for MI, scoring 83 off 35 deliveries at a strike rate of 237. 14 before being dismissed by Vyshak Vijay Kumar. His knock was studded with seven fours and six sixes.
Best bowler of the match
Jason Behrendorff claimed a three-wicket haul in MI’s clash against RCB. He dismissed RCB opener Virat Kohli, Anuj Rawat, and Glenn Maxwell. The MI’s Australian bowler conceded 36 runs in his four-over spell at an economy of 9.00.

Mumbai Indians will take on Gujarat Titans in their upcoming fixture at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 12. RCB, on the other hand, will lock horns with Rajasthan Royals on May 14 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
