The 18th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a fiery clash between the defending champions Gujarat Titans and the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali on Thursday, April 13. Gujarat Titans won the game by six wickets.

Coming into bat first, man-in-form Shikhar Dhawan failed to make an impact as he was dismissed after scoring just eight runs. On the other hand, Prabhsimran Singh failed to score big as well. 

Matthew Short was the highest run-getter for Punjab, amassing 36 runs to his name, and after decent knocks from some of the middle order batters, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side posted 153 runs on the board.

During the run chase, star Indian batter Shubman Gill played a sensational knock, accumulating 67 runs off 49 deliveries. His knock was integral to the defending champions’ win. As the side required seven runs off the last over, Rahul Tewatia and David Miller propelled Gujarat to a magnificent victory.

Best performers from the game

Shubman Gill: The 23-year-old Shubman Gill was undoubtedly the best batter on the pitch against Punjab. The Indian batter amassed 67 runs to his name off 49 deliveries, and his knock was one of the biggest factors in Gujarat Titans winning the match in fabulous fashion.

Mohit Sharma: Gujarat Titans handed the 34-year-old Mohit Sharma a chance in the line-up after Yash Dayal was dropped. The decision to include the veteran did come through, as he took two wickets and conceded just 18 runs in the four overs he bowled.

What’s next for both teams?

Following their fabulous win, Gujarat Titans will next take on Rajasthan Royals in the 23rd match of the tournament in Ahmedabad on Sunday, April 16. On the other hand, Punjab Kings will be going up against the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants in the 21st match of the tournament in Lucknow on Saturday, April 15.
