The 24th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will witness the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore take on the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Monday, April 17.
Bangalore are coming into the game on the back of a win against the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals in the 20th game of the tournament on Saturday, April 15. Coming into bat first, ace India batter Virat Kohli put in a fabulous performance. The 34-year-old amassed 50 runs to his name off 33 deliveries. However, the rest of the batting order could not amount to much.
As the side was heading towards a mediocre total keeping the surface at the venue into consideration, decent knocks by Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, Anuj Rawat, and Glenn Maxwell propelled them to a decent total of 174.
During the run chase, the hosts put in a fabulous performance with the ball. Vijaykumar Vyshak took three wickets to dismantle Delhi’s batting attack. Furthermore, Mohammed Siraj took two wickets as Bangalore won the game by 23 runs.
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings will be coming into the match after a defeat to the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals in the 17th game of the competition on Wednesday, April 12.
Chennai won the toss and elected to bowl first. The four-time champions got off to a good start to the game as in-form batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande fairly early on. However, through resilient knocks by Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Shimron Hetmyer, Rajasthan posted 175 on the board.
In the second innings, Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane played exceptional knocks to lay a strong foundation for Chennai. As the game came down to the wire, Ravindra Jadeja and skipper MS Dhoni played vintage knocks, but it was all in vain as Rajasthan won the game by three runs.
As the four-time champions prepare to take on Bangalore, they will be keen on putting in an improved performance as compared to their previous game. Being away from home would be an added challenge as well. It could be interesting to see how the Yellow Army fares at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
