The T20 fever is about to take over entire India as the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is about to get underway from March 31. The league will once again feature the best cricketing talent from all around the world that will light up the tournament with its stupendous performances.
T20 cricket is considered to be a batter’s game, however, spinners play an equally important role in the format. A good spinner is pivotal to any team’s success in the format and must have an attacking mindset to keep on challenging the batters instead of bowling defensively.
As the biggest T20 league in the world draws closer, let’s take a look at the top three Indian spinners to watch out for in the upcoming edition.
Yuzvendra Chahal
The 32-year-old has been the premier spinner in the competition since 2015. Chahal won the coveted purple cap in the last edition of the tournament having finished as the leading wicket-taker with 27 wickets to his name.
The wrist spinner has been consistently performing in the T20 extravaganza since 2019 as his average hasn’t gone above 21 and his economy has stayed below 8. Chahal will be eager to once again bamboozle the batters in the upcoming edition.
Kuldeep Yadav
After going through the worst form of his career in 2019 and 2020, Kuldeep Yadav made a sensational comeback playing for Delhi in the 2022 season. He was fifth on the list of leading wicket-takers in the season with 21 scalps to his name at an average of 19.95. Kuldeep will look to continue his form in the upcoming edition as well and take crucial wickets for his side.
Varun Chakravarthy
After having back-to-back amazing seasons for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020 and 2021, Varun Chakravarthy couldn’t perform as per expectations in 2022. His exploits in 2021 earned him a place in the Indian squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup where he couldn’t replicate his magic and was eventually pushed out of the side. His downfall continued in the 2022 season as he could only pick six wickets in 11 matches at an average of 55. The 31-year-old will look to stage a remarkable comeback in the upcoming edition and earn his place back in the Indian team.
