Suryakumar Yadav’s performance in Thursday’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was nothing short of a wonder. He played a stellar innings, scoring 52 runs off just 19 balls. Notably, he also achieved his fastest fifty of the IPL in a mere 17 balls, marking a quick turnaround after his previous match, in which he was dismissed for a duck.
Surya’s exceptional knock was met with an outpouring of admiration from both fans and experts. Later, Harbhajan Singh, too, joined in and showered words of praise upon the batter, drawing a comparison between Surya’s batting style with that of AB de Villiers of South Africa.
Harbhajan Singh compares Surya with de Villiers
During his conversation with Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh drew a significant comparison between Surya and de Villiers. He went on to assert that Suryakumar is not just on par with the South African legend but a better batter.
“Suryakumar is in a different league. When Suryakumar Yadav shines, no one can survive. We have all seen AB de Villiers, unbelievable player! But when I see this guy, I think he is a better version of AB de Villiers. He has won more number of games for his franchise than anyone playing now in this format,” Harbhajan said on Star Sports.
Talking further, Harbhajan said that he is glad to retire from cricket as he is safe from facing a quality hitter like Surya on the ground.
“I have never seen someone dominating like the way Suryakumar does. Unbelievable. Where do you bowl to him? I am so glad I am not playing cricket now. At this age, where do you bowl to this guy?” The former off-spinner stated.
“He has got an answer for every ball you bowl to him, whether it’s wide yorker, bouncer. He can play sweep, pull, upper cut and I don’t what else he can play. He is a different kind of a player,” he added.
Harbhajan also remarked that he would definitely go after buying Surya in the IPL auction if he gets a chance to be a part of any team.
“If I was part of any team, he would be my first pick, if he comes in the auction. But it’s never going to happen,” the 43-year-old concluded.

Positive hope before the T20I World Cup
As the T20I World Cup looms, Suryakumar Yadav’s resurgence is a promising development for Team India. If he can maintain his impressive form throughout the IPL, there’s a strong possibility of him being selected in the WC squad. This could potentially see him emerge as a match-winner for India on the grandest stage of T20 cricket. The T20I World Cup will begin in June this year in the USA.
