Recently, several Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players made an appearance at a social event on Wednesday. The gathering featured newcomers like Rachin Ravindra alongside Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and former skipper MS Dhoni engaging in a fun session. During the event, the anchor raised the topic of Rachin’s dropped catch during CSK’s second Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.
Rachin Ravindra’s impact and performance for CSK
Rachin, secured for Rs 1.8 crore in the December IPL auction, has proven to be a valuable asset for CSK. The New Zealand all-rounder has consistently provided explosive starts to the team, particularly after being entrusted with the responsibility of opening the batting alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad in the absence of Devon Conway.
Rachin’s rare mishap: Dropping a catch
Wearing the yellow jersey, Rachin has displayed flawless performances thus far. However, a rare mishap occurred on Tuesday when he failed to hold onto a catch from Gujarat batter Sai Sudharsan during the 15th over of the visiting team’s unsuccessful chase of 208 runs. The drop occurred while he was stationed at extra cover, and it was in Matheesha Pathirana‘s over.

MS Dhoni’s witty remark and response
When asked if he (Rachin) looked at Dhoni after dropping the catch and if the wicketkeeper-batter said anything to him, Rachin was about to respond when Dhoni, displaying his characteristic wit, quickly interjected, “There’s a new captain, huh?” referring to Ruturaj, who assumed the captaincy for this season.
Everyone present at the event shared a good laugh alongside the anchor herself and other CSK players presented there. Dhoni then proceeded to talk about the dropped catch, mentioning, “But, I’m not someone who reacts much, especially when someone is playing their first or second game. I think Rutu (Ruturaj) is quite similar. However, it was enjoyable to watch Rachin move around the field,”

CSK’s strong start under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership
Under the new leadership of Ruturaj, CSK have maintained their position at the top of the table by winning both of their matches. Their upcoming fixture is against Delhi Capitals (DC), marking their first away game of the season in Vizag on March 31.
