Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 7 wickets in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After being asked to bat first, CSK struggled against PBKS bowlers and could only manage a below-par total of 162 for 7, despite Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s commendable innings of 62 runs off 48 balls.
In response, PBKS easily chased the target in 17.5 overs, powered by impactful performances from Jonny Bairstow (46 off 30) and Rilee Rossouw (43 off 23). Following their win, PBKS took a jab at MS Dhoni on social media, sparking a buzz and generating mixed reactions from fans.

Fans and notable figures have embraced a trend of associating the number 7 with Dhoni, owing to his jersey number. Joining the trend, PBKS took a dig at Dhoni and CSK humorously. Following their win against CSK, PBKS rose to seventh spot on the IPL points table. Regarding their position in the team standings, PBKS shared the points table on social media. They captioned the post, “Our position in the points table! Thala for a reason!”

Interestingly, during the CSK vs PBKS match, Dhoni was dismissed as the seventh batter for CSK. PBKS took note of this and playfully mocked the 42-year-old cricketer with a post mentioned, “Dhoni was our 7th wicket today! Thala for a reason!”

Dhoni’s first dismissal of IPL 2024
The former CSK skipper experienced his first dismissal in the 17th season of the lucrative league. Dhoni was run out on the last ball of CSK’s innings while attempting to complete a second run. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 14 runs off 11 balls at a strike rate of 127.27.
