With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 just around the corner, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are gearing up for yet another shot at glory. As fans eagerly await the action-packed cricketing extravaganza, all eyes are on PBKS, a team that has shown promise but failed to secure the coveted IPL title in previous seasons.
A history of near misses
Despite being a competitive outfit, PBKS have often found themselves falling short due to inconsistencies in their performances. The IPL 2023 season was no different, with PBKS failing to make it to the playoffs despite a promising start. They finished 8th in the points table, winning six out of their 14 league matches.
Shikhar Dhawan’s leadership crucial for PBKS
Shikhar Dhawan aims to change the course of the tournament for the team through his leadership skills and batting performance. With his extensive experience, dynamic batting ability, and leadership acumen, Dhawan possesses the potential to guide Punjab Kings to their first-ever IPL title victory.
Bowling Arsenal reinforced with high-value signings
PBKS have bolstered their bowling attack with key signings like Harshal Patel, acquired for a hefty sum of INR 11.75 Crore, and the presence of Kagiso Rabada. These additions are expected to provide the team with a formidable challenge against their opponents.
Campaign to begin against Delhi Capitals
The journey for Punjab Kings kicks off with a match against Delhi Capitals on March 23 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Subsequently, PBKS will engage in three additional matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 25, Lucknow Super Giants on March 30, and Gujarat Giants on April 04.
