In anticipation of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings launched their eagerly awaited new matchday jersey. The unveiling took place amidst a spectacular event held at the Elante Mall in Chandigarh on Saturday, graced by notable personalities from various spheres of life. Co-owner Preity Zinta and team captain Shikhar Dhawan took center stage to reveal the vibrant new colors and striking design of the jersey, accompanied by other team members and coaching staff.
Optimism surrounds Punjab Kings’ quest for IPL 2024 title
With the onset of the 2024 IPL season, Punjab, the 2014 runners-up, are poised for a renewed title challenge under the leadership of veteran opener Shikhar. Despite finishing eighth in the IPL 2023 points table, missing out on a playoff berth by a mere four points, the Mohali-based franchise will be eager to turn the tide in the upcoming season.

Shikhar Dhawan discloses the “lucky charm” factor for PBKS
In a significant change for the upcoming season, Punjab will relocate their home matches from the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali to the newly constructed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur. Captain Shikhar expressed hope that the new venue would bring a change in fortune for the team, aiming to secure their maiden IPL title after 16 seasons of participation in the tournament.
“The new jersey has new details and everyday is a new day and you come up with new ideas. We always look forward to positive vibes ahead of the tournament,” Dhawan was quoted as saying by India Today.
“The new stadium will be our lucky charm. We are trying to think positively. We are very grateful to Mohali and we thank the Mohali stadium, its groundsmen,” the 38-year-old concluded.
Inaugural match against the Delhi Capitals
The much-anticipated debut match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium will witness Punjab facing off against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, March 23. This historic occasion will marks the beginning of a new era for the franchise as they embark on their quest for IPL glory in their new home venue.
