In a crucial IPL encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerged victorious over Delhi Capitals (DC) by 47 runs.

RCB showcased a commendable performance after being asked to bat first and set a formidable total of 187 for 9 in 20 overs, with stellar knocks from Will Jacks (41 off 29) and Rajat Patidar (52 off 32). DC, despite a valiant effort from Axar Patel, fell short in their chase after being all out for 140 in 14.1 overs. Notably, RCB witnessed a remarkable bowling exhibition from Yash Dayal (3.1-0-20-3) and Lockie Ferguson (4-0-23-2).

The Capitals encountered difficulties in all aspects of the game, including batting, bowling, and fielding. DC players dropped easy catches and failed to stem the flow of boundaries. However, amidst these struggles, Axar Patel stood out with his exceptional fielding prowess, taking a remarkable catch to dismiss RCB batter Patidar. His agility and precision were a sight to behold.

Axar Patel’s marvellous catch sends Rajat Patidar packing

In the 13th over, Rasikh Salam delivered a back-of-a-length ball outside the off-stump, tempting the aggressive Patidar to drive through the off-side. However, his shot didn’t connect cleanly, resulting in a top edge. Axar, stationed at extra cover, demonstrated flawless fielding technique as he moved decisively to his left, securing the catch safely with both hands before hitting the turf.

Axar speaks on poor fielding display from DC

Axar, serving as the stand-in captain for DC in Rishabh Pant’s absence, didn’t shy away from addressing his team’s shortcomings, particularly the numerous missed catches. While acknowledging the impact of these errors on their defeat, he stressed that tighter fielding could have restricted RCB to a total of 150.

“Dropped catches hurt us. Could’ve restricted them to 150. When you lose four wickets in powerplay, you’re always chasing the game. 160-170 would’ve been a par score. Pitch was two-paced,” Axar said in the post-match presentation.
