During the 60th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, held at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 11, tensions rose as a spectator encountered law enforcement’s displeasure for his reluctance to surrender a cricket ball.
In a match truncated by rain, Mumbai Indians’ (MI) skipper, Hardik Pandya, won the toss and elected to field first. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batters displayed their prowess, smashing a total of nine sixes, accumulating a score of 157/7 in 16 overs. Among the spectators, one adorned in a Rinku Singh jersey found himself in possession of a ball sent soaring into the stands. Despite his attempt to conceal the ball in his trousers, he eventually yielded to the demands of an incensed policeman.
Hilarious incident by the fan
The clip capturing the altercation between the spectator and the officer quickly spread across social media platforms after a bystander shared it online. Upon recovering the ball, the officer returned it to the field before redirecting his attention to the fan, physically urging them away from the vicinity. His efforts did not cease there, as he continued to guide the young individual away, potentially aiming to escort them from the premises.

Kolkata Knight Riders claims top position in IPL 2024
Following their victory against MI, KKR set off for Ahmedabad to take on the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday, May 13. Regrettably, the game had to be called off due to persistent rainfall. With this outcome, the Titans, led by Shubman Gill, concluded their campaign, becoming the third team to exit the tournament. On the other hand, the Knight Riders secured their spot in the top two, accumulating 19 points from 13 matches.
Consequently, they are assured of a place in the final stages. This ensures that after their final league match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 19, Shreyas Iyer and his team will return to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for the Qualifier 1 on May 21.
