Rajasthan Royals (RR) advanced to Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Eliminator on Wednesday. The match between the two teams was marked by tension, drama, and several controversial incidents.
One such incident occurred when RR batter Yashasvi Jaiswal made a fielding error, prompting frustration from Sanju Samson, who signalled Jaiswal to think more carefully and be alert on the field.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fielding blunder angers Sanju Samson
In the final over of RCB’s innings, Karn Sharma played a short ball from Sandeep Sharma with a ramp shot. Positioned at point, Jaiswal faced difficulty as the ball bounced in front of him and spun away, resulting in a boundary. Clearly displeased, Samson rebuked the left-handed batter for his fielding error by signalling him to use his brain while fielding.

Sanju expresses happiness with the team’s bowling
Despite experiencing frustration during the game, the wicketkeeper-batter found immense joy in his team’s victory. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Samson expressed his delight with the teammates’ performance, particularly praising the bowlers for putting relentless pressure on RCB batters from the start. The 29-year-old player also acknowledged the significant contributions of Shane Bond and Kumar Sangakkara, emphasizing their pivotal roles in the team’s success.
“What cricket and life has taught us is we will have some good and some really bad phases. But we need to have the character to bounce back. Really happy with the way we fielded, batted and bowled today. Credit to the bowlers, they are always looking at what the opposition batters would do and what fields to set. Credit goes to Sanga and bowling coach Shane Bond as well. They’ve spent a lot of time in hotel rooms discussing these things,” Samson said in the post-match presentation, as quoted by First Post.
