Ravichandran Ashwin, the veteran Indian off-spinner, has been a formidable force in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since making his debut with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2009. Known for his sharp cricketing acumen and strategic prowess, Ashwin has played a pivotal role in his teams’ successes over the years. His ability to adapt and innovate has made him one of the most respected bowlers in the league, contributing significantly to the overall competitiveness of the IPL.
Ravichandran Ashwin returns to CSK in a new role
Ashwin has rejoined the Super Kings, but this time in a significant role within Superking Ventures, a subsidiary of CSK. KS Viswanathan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings Ltd, expressed his excitement about Ashwin’s return.
“We are excited to have Ashwin back. He will have a huge role to play at Superkings Ventures and our High-Performance Centre,” Viswanathan stated as quoted by TOI.

Reflecting on his return, Ashwin shared his enthusiasm for contributing to the cricketing community once again.
“Growing the game and contributing to the cricketing fraternity is my primary focus. I feel elated to be back to where it all began for me,” the Chennai-born spinner said.
Meanwhile, CSK CEO Viswanathan highlighted Ashwin’s dedication and potential impact on the younger generation of cricketers.
“He is one of the best cricketers from Tamil Nadu and is known for his drive towards excellence. His commitment to the game at any level, be it for India, Tamil Nadu, or even the club, is well known. He will be a great person to guide the centre and nurture the young talents coming through,” added Viswanathan.

Ashwin’s journey in IPL
Ashwin’s IPL journey began with CSK, where he made his debut in 2009 and played until 2015. He was a crucial part of the team, contributing to their multiple title victories. In 2018, he was picked up by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the mega auction, marking CSK’s return to the tournament after a two-year suspension. Ahead of IPL 2020, Ashwin was traded to Delhi Capitals (DC), where he played for two seasons before moving to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022.
Notably, since 2018, Ashwin has played for Take Solutions’ team MRC ‘A’ in the TNCA first division up until last season. Now, with his return to India Cements, Ashwin will be eligible to compete for the India Cements teams in the upcoming 2024-25 first division season, beginning on Thursday. His expertise will be invaluable at CSK’s High-Performance Centre in Navalur, which is scheduled to host TNCA first-division matches this year.
