Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s performance in IPL 2024 has been a hot topic of discussion as the young cricketer’s form has raised concerns among cricket pundits and fans alike.
In the seven matches he has played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) this season, Jaiswal has scored a total of 121 runs, with his highest score being 39. Also, his batting average stands at 17.29, reflecting a dip in his usual standards.
In RR’s recent fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday (April 16), Jaiswal managed to score 19 runs off jut9 balls. While this knock showcased glimpses of his talent, it also highlighted his inconsistency in the tournament so far.
“You are not a wrestler and you are not Andre Russell”: Aakash Chopra
Former cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed his concerns about Jaiswal’s batting approach in IPL 2024. Chopra noted that Jaiswal seems to be deviating from his usual style of play, attempting to aggressively attack every ball instead of relying on his timing and technique.
“I am getting slightly worried about Yashasvi because Yashasvi didn’t used to play like this. He is trying to murder every ball. You are a very good player, and you are good because you believe in timing. You are not a wrestler and you are not Andre Russell. Your playing style is very different,” said Chopra on his Youtube channel.

Chopra emphasized the need for RR coach Kumar Sangakkara and Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma to intervene and guide Jaiswal back to his original form. He suggested that Jaiswal’s aggressive approach might not be suitable for his playing style and urged him to play more cautiously.
“Since I like this kid a lot, I want Kumar Sangakkara to talk to him, or else Rohit Sharma should pick up the phone and talk to him and say – ‘You have to go to the T20 World Cup but this form is not required, play a little cautiously’. He hit a six and a four, and then tried another big shot and got out,” added Chopra.
