In a high-stakes clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 19, RCB emerged victorious, securing the final spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. The intense match, held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, saw RCB outplay the five-time champions CSK, winning by 27 runs.

Faf du Plessis’ spectacular catch stuns crowd

One of the standout moments of the match was RCB skipper Faf du Plessis‘ extraordinary fielding effort that left both players and spectators in awe. During the 15th over of CSK’s innings, Du Plessis made a breathtaking one-handed catch to dismiss Mitchell Santner.

The incredible moment unfolded on the final ball of the over bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Siraj delivered a low full toss outside off-stump, which Santner attempted to loft over mid-off. Du Plessis, showcasing his remarkable athleticism, leaped high to his right and plucked the ball out of the air with one hand.

Virat Kohli’s joyful reaction

The stunning catch prompted an immediate and enthusiastic reaction from Virat Kohli. Overcome with excitement, Kohli ran towards Du Plessis and kissed him on the cheek, celebrating the captain’s stupendous effort. The crowd erupted in applause, and even Santner was left visibly impressed by Du Plessis’ skill.

Du plessis shines with the bat

In addition to his fielding heroics, Du Plessis also led RCB’s batting effort, scoring a vital half-century. After being asked to bat first, RCB posted an imposing total of 218/5 in their 20 overs. Du Plessis contributed 54 runs off 39 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. He received solid support from Kohli (47), Rajat Patidar (41), and Cameron Green (38*).

CSK’s valiant but unsuccessful chase

Chasing 219, CSK fought valiantly but fell short, managing 191/7 in their 20 overs. Rachin Ravindra top-scored with a resilient 61, while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 42. Despite their efforts, CSK couldn’t bridge the gap, falling 27 runs short of the target.
