Mahmudullah retires from international cricket

Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 17-year career. The 39-year-old’s decision marks the end of an illustrious journey that saw him serve as one of the cornerstones of Bangladesh cricket.

A career spanning formats and generations

Mahmudullah, known for his calm demeanor and clutch performances, had already stepped away from Test cricket in 2021 and T20 Internationals in 2024. His final announcement came through a heartfelt social media post on March 12, 2025, where he expressed gratitude to his family, teammates, coaches, and fans for their unwavering support.

His last international appearance was during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand. Unfortunately, it was not a fairytale ending as Bangladesh exited the tournament winless in the group stage. Mahmudullah’s final innings saw him dismissed for a single-digit score by Michael Bracewell.
