After winning the toss at the Brian Lara stadium in Tarouba, the Proteas elected to bowl first, but the Men in Maroon posted a competitive total of 179 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

The West Indies innings was anchored by Shai Hope, who scored a brisk 41 runs off just 22 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Skipper Rovman Powell contributed a solid 35 runs off 22 deliveries, while Sherfane Rutherford added 29 runs off 18 balls. Alick Athanaze provided a steady start with 28 runs, but the innings lacked a significant partnership as wickets fell at regular intervals.
South Africa’s bowling attack was led by Lizaad Williams, who took three wickets for 36 runs in four overs, while Patrick Kruger claimed two wickets for 29 runs. The West Indies managed to set a challenging target of 180 runs.

Romario Shepherd shines with the ball for WI
In response, South Africa struggled to build momentum and were bundles out for 149 in 19.4 overs. Reeza Hendricks was the standout performer for South Africa, scoring 44 runs off just 18 balls, including six fours and two sixes. However, the rest of the batting lineup faltered against a disciplined West Indies bowling attack.
Romario Shepherd was the star with the ball for the West Indies, taking three wickets for just 15 runs in four overs, earning him the Player of the Match award. Shamar Joseph also impressed, claiming three wickets for 31 runs, while Akeal Hosein chipped in with two wickets for 25 runs.

“When you give guys opportunity and back them, they can do well. Brandon King is our No.1 opener, but Alick [Athanaze] has grabbed his opportunity. It’s always nice to beat such a team, they are a quality team,” said Rovman Powell, the winning captain, in the post-match presentation.
