Team India have qualified for the Super 8 stage at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Quite a few factors played massive role behind India’s spectacular performance in the multi-team tournament. Amongst them is their fielding. Notably, India’s fielding in the T20 World Cup 2024 has been a standout aspect of their performance. Known for their agility and athleticism on the field, the Indian team has displayed exceptional fielding skills, which have played a crucial role in their success.

Team India’s fielding excellence

With sharp reflexes, strong throwing arms, and quick movements, Team India have been able to create crucial run-out opportunities, take stunning catches, and save valuable runs in the field. Their commitment to excellence in fielding has not only boosted their overall performance but has also set a high standard for fielding in the global showpiece event.

Coach T Dilip’s insights on fielding

But to pick one or two best fielders is indeed quite challenging. However, India’s fielding coach T Dilip has recently shared his opinion on the best fielders for Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Challenges in identifying best fielders

Dilip expressed the challenge of singling out the best fielder, emphasizing the collective strength of the unit. While acknowledging the individual skills of players like Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, he underscored the pivotal role of the bowlers in the team’s fielding success. Dilip reckoned that by excelling in their roles, the bowlers enable captain Rohit to strategically position fielders, enhancing the team’s overall fielding performance. Dilip’s observations shed light on the cohesive effort and strategic acumen that underpin Team India’s fielding prowess in international cricket.

“That’s a tough question and a very tough answer to give. Ideally as an unit we have been really well. But if I really need to go into the specifics what’s heartening to see is that the bowlers doing really well. Yes, Jadeja is good, Kohli is good, Rohit is good, but what is heartening to see is the bowlers doing well. It is adding up as a group. You will see bowlers at the hotspots, that gives Rohit Sharma versatility in placing good fielders in good positions all the time,” said Dilip ahead of the IND vs CAN game.

Strategy for Super 8s phase

In the upcoming match against Canada, India will aim to finalize their optimal lineup and strategies for the Super 8s phase. A significant concern for Team India has been the lack of form displayed by their star player Kohli. With only 5 runs scored in 3 games, there is a possibility that Kohli may return to his usual batting position at number three, while Yashasvi Jaiswal could seize the opportunity to open the innings. Additionally, the team may opt to rest some bowlers and give chance to players like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Furthermore, Sanju Samson might also have an opportunity to showcase his batting skills in the game against Canada.
