Travis Head led Australia to a record-breaking victory over Scotland in the opening match of their three-match T20I series, setting the highest powerplay total in T20I history. The match, held at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh, showcased Head’s explosive batting and highlighted Australia’s dominance in the format.
Australia restricts Scotland to 154
After winning the toss, Australia elected to bowl first, a decision that paid off as they managed to restrict Scotland to 154/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
Scotland’s innings was a mixed bag, with none of their batsmen able to convert starts into big scores. George Munsey provided a quick start with 28 runs off 16 balls, including two fours and three sixes. However, the rest of the top order struggled against Australia’s pace attack. Richie Berrington and Matthew Cross contributed 23 and 27 runs, respectively, but the middle and lower order failed to accelerate in the latter stages of the innings.
Australia’s bowlers were efficient, with Sean Abbott leading the attack with figures of 3/39 in his 4 overs. Xavier Bartlett was also impressive, picking up 2 wickets for 23 runs in his 4 overs, while Adam Zampa provided crucial breakthroughs, taking 2/33.

In response, Australia chased down the target of 155 with remarkable ease, finishing at 156/3 in just 9.4 overs. The star of the innings was Travis Head, who played a blistering knock of 80 runs off just 25 balls, smashing 12 fours and 5 sixes. Head’s explosive start, a 17-ball half-century, set the tone for the chase, with Mitchell Marsh continuing the onslaught with a quickfire 39 off 12 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Scotland’s bowlers were unable to contain the Australian batsmen, with Mark Watt being the only one to find some success, taking 2 wickets for 13 runs in his 2 overs. Brandon McMullen managed to dismiss debutant Jake Fraser McGurk for a duck, but the rest of the attack was taken to the cleaners by the Australian batters.
