ICC Test Rankings: Joe Root regains No.1 spot; Rohit Sharma advances

In the latest ICC Men’s Test rankings, significant shakeups have occurred, marking a dynamic shift in the landscape of International cricket. Among the most notable change is the rise of 33 year old former England captain  Joe Root, who reclaimed the top spot.

Joe Root’s ninth stint as a No.1 batter

England batter Root has regained the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings following his impressive 87 in the first innings of the third and final Test against the West Indies in Birmingham. England’s victory by 10 wickets in that match secured a 3-0 series win. This marks Root’s ninth time at the number one position. His first stint at the top began in August 2015, and his most recent tenure prior to this was in June of last year, following a strong performance in the opening Ashes Test, also held in Birmingham.

Daryl Mitchell and Babar Azam shares the No.3 spot

Root has reclaimed the number one spot in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, surpassing Kane Williamson. Meanwhile, Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith, have each moved up one position as Harry Brook dropped to seventh after reaching a career-high third place last week.

In the latest rankings update, including performances from the Ireland versus Zimbabwe Test in Belfast, England captain Ben Stokes has ascended four places to 30th. Stokes earned this advancement following his 54 in the first innings and a rapid 57 not out off 28 balls in the second innings of the Test in Birmingham.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma moved up by one position to 6th rank

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has got the increment of one position, as he rose from 7th spot 6th now. On the other hand another Indian maestro Virat Kohli maintains the 10th spot.

In the latest ICC Men’s Test team ranking, Australia leads the leadership board followed by India, England and then South Africa. With the upcoming tours cricketing world eagerly anticipates the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025 (WTC) final, set to take place at Lord’s in June 2025.
