Suryakumar Yadav playfully teases Abhishek Sharma, checks his pockets during MI vs SRH clash

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night witnessed a captivating moment that transcended the on-field cricketing action, courtesy of Mumbai Indians’ star batter, Suryakumar Yadav. In a lighthearted and humorous gesture, Suryakumar playfully checked the pockets of SRH opener Abhishek Sharma, igniting laughter both on the field and across social media platforms.

The amusing incident was a witty reference to Abhishek Sharma’s spectacular knock in the previous match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), where he unleashed a breathtaking 141 runs off a mere 55 deliveries. Following his century, Abhishek had pulled out a folded note from his pocket, displaying it to the crowd with the message, “This one is for the Orange Army,” a heartfelt tribute to SRH’s passionate fanbase. This unique celebration quickly became a talking point and one of the most memorable moments of IPL 2025.

During the MI vs SRH game, Suryakumar, known for his jovial nature and camaraderie with fellow players, added a touch of humour to the proceedings. As Abhishek was adjusting his gear, Suryakumar approached him and mockingly patted down his pockets, feigning a search for another celebratory note. The Wankhede crowd erupted in laughter, and the video clip of this interaction rapidly went viral on social media, entertaining fans and spawning a wave of memes.

Here’s the video:

Abhishek, riding high on his recent record-breaking performance, displayed glimpses of his form in this match as well, scoring a composed 40 runs off 28 balls, including seven boundaries. However, he was unable to replicate the explosive innings of his previous outing. The SRH innings began with some early chances, as both openers were dropped in the first over bowled by Deepak Chahar. Abhishek showed promise with a few well-timed boundaries in the fifth over but was eventually dismissed in the eighth over. Substitute fielder Raj Angad Bawa took a sharp catch off Hardik Pandya’s bowling, ending Abhishek’s innings.

Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad despite late hiccups

Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to post a competitive total of 162 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Key contributions came from Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28), Aniket Verma (18 off 8, including two sixes) and Pat Cummins (22 off 10). The Wankhede pitch offered assistance to spinners and slower bowlers, making the chase a challenging task for Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians, demonstrating a composed approach led by Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton, successfully chased down the target. Despite losing some wickets towards the end, they secured a four-wicket victory in a closely contested match between two teams striving to find consistency in the tournament.
